Searching the web using search engines is highly complex. People with intellectual disabilities are therefore not only overwhelmed at input entry but also when being confronted with a high number of search results. That’s where “Tobi” comes in. The avatar is based on the needs of support in daily life, individualism, information and ease of use. It guides the user step by step through the search engine input, accepting a wide range of inputs like text, voice and images. The actual search is then carried out by a common search engine. Results are displayed in a simplified form to not overwhelm the user. This way, “Tobi” enables people with disabilities to access complex modern web search.
